Safeguarding at Little Stoke Primary School
At Little Stoke Primary School, the health, safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority. All staff, governors and volunteers share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils. This page provides an overview of our safeguarding approach. For full details, please see our LSPS Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy by following the link to our policies page:
Our Safeguarding Approach
We listen carefully to our pupils and take seriously anything they tell us. All staff receive regular Child Protection training, and pupils are taught which adults they can speak to if they have worries or concerns.
Staff are trained to recognise signs of potential physical or emotional harm, neglect, or other safeguarding issues. Any concerns must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
We follow the procedures set out by the South Gloucestershire Children’s Safeguarding Board. In some circumstances, this may involve working with external agencies to ensure a child’s safety and well-being. Wherever possible, we will talk to parents or carers first, unless doing so may place a child at further risk.

Preventing Radicalisation
Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, schools must have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the Prevent Duty.
Children and young people may be exposed to extremist ideas or prejudiced views, particularly online. Schools play an important role in helping protect them, just as we do in cases of child exploitation, substance misuse or other safeguarding concerns.
Our Commitment to the Prevent Duty
We are committed to:
- Maintaining a single point of contact for Prevent concerns.
- Assessing the risk of pupils being drawn into extremism.
- Training staff to recognise signs of radicalisation.
- Referring vulnerable individuals to Channel where appropriate.
- Ensuring IT systems block access to extremist material.
- Prohibiting extremist speakers or events in school.
- Promoting and being confident about British Values.
We aim to provide a safe learning environment and support pupils who may be vulnerable to extremist or extreme views. Our approach includes early intervention, partnership working and sensitivity when managing concerns.

Managing Allegations Against Staff
On rare occasions, allegations may be made against adults working with children. If this happens, the school follows South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children’s Board procedures. Where appropriate, The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be informed within one working day.
